Department of Economics hosted a comprehensive one-day National Seminar titled ‘National Education Policy 2020 & Sustainable Development Goals 2030.’ The seminar aimed to deeply analyze the intersections between the education policy landscape and the targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030. Throughout the event, there was a focused dialogue on the alignment of educational policies with sustainable development objectives, stressing the significance of balanced growth, social inclusivity, and environmental preservation. Professor Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Principal of Poona College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, expressed confidence that the insights gained would shape future initiatives towards inclusive education and sustainable development. Dr. Shahid Jamal Ansari, the Seminar-Convener and Head of the Department of Economics, Postgraduate and Research Center, aimed to translate the discussions into actionable strategies for societal progress._

During the opening remarks, Mr. Moinuddin Khan, Vice Principal of Poona College, extended a warm welcome to distinguished experts in economics and education from across India. He underscored the relevance of the seminar’s theme and applauded the organizers for addressing pressing issues.

_Dr. Prashant Sathe, the Chief Guest of the inaugural session, emphasized the need to integrate the UN’s 17 SDGs for 2030 with the NEP 2020 curriculum, highlighting the importance of concerted efforts to achieve tangible advancements. However, he acknowledged the challenges ahead, noting the likelihood of missing the 2030 deadline.
Prof. Nighat Ahmad of Aligarh Muslim University, Guest of Honor of Plenary Session has highlighted shortage of basic facilities in education sector and the reason behind that is meagre budgetary allocation.
Prof. Arshad Ikram of Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi were chief guest of Valedictory session and he discussed on policy issues. and Dr. Ganesh Chavan of S.N.D.T. Women’s University, key-note speaker has discussed on evaluation mechanism under NEP 2020.
Dr. Aftab Alam of Abeda Inamdar Sr. College, Pune has chaired the technical session and more than 20 research papers were presented.

This seminar was highly successful in terms of participants number, quality research papers and experts deliberations.
